This is my first entry, so lets keep this simple:
The Republican National Convention was basically the apex of Bush's power. I knew that as tough as that week was to stomach, that this administration has been running out of steam. He can't really get up over 50% in any really reliable nationwide poll, which-- even by republican admission-- is a really bad thing for an incumbent. He's being hit again and again and again from one story to the next. The republican blogsphere is screaming about memoes-- in short they are in full shock and awe mode, trying to pretend that all is well.
Excellent.
Now lets look at Kerry. Kerry's getting advice from every corner, and if he did even one tenth of the things people have advised him to do (including me) he'd have no time to sleep or eat, much less strategize and bring this whole thing home.
I trust Kerry is working his ass off in every way to win this. I guarantee his is more hungry than the president, and he can definitely win this. The endorsements he is recieving are mulitplying. The money to back him is rolling in....
But forget all that for a moment. Let's say I'm wrong. Lets say Bush is reelected.
Does that mean that he's right? Does that mean that he's won?
In the long term, as a citizen, it is my job to hold this and every administrations ass to the fire when I think they are screwing up. They work for me and you, and right now we know that the guy in power and the creeps around him are dead wrong.
They are people. They are Americans, but when it comes to the issues they are the black hats. They are the ones breaking everything we should be building up, and spiting in the face of everyone we should be working with.
My job, as a citizen is to do everything legally within my power to create change. I will be doing this not just for a few month. Not just a few years, but for the rest of my life.
In the sort term, my job is to hold the Bush administration responsible for it's terrible and ongoing mistakes. If that job is a few more months, or a few more years, then that is what I will do.
I know I'm on the right side. Now if you'll excuse me... I have work to do.
